"T" is for Trust (and tango)

"It is not easy to lead when you don't know where you are going "

How often have you heard the words "trust me"? We know well enough from experience that trust must be earned. it is kind of like wages for reliable behaviour.

"no one ever drowned on the dance floor . . . "

When we used to canoe, we would often navigate very rough water and as the person in the stern, it was my job to pick a safe route through difficult water. Sharlene's job in the bow was to provide propulsion and assist in the navigation. Some times I would pick the worst route just for fun.

The plaintive cries of "No, No" were often heard from the bow just before we would end up in the water. Ok, you get the picture. This was not the way to earn trust.

Unbelievably, on the dance floor, Sharlene still does almost anything I ask and she expects tht I will pick a safe path and not asking her to do anything that will make us both look foolish.

Dancing "eyes closed" and even blindfolded, is a great way to improve your lead/follow and develop trust between you and your partner. Start slowly.

Ok leaders, here is the moral of the story. You need to listen to your partner. You will both do much better on the dance floor.

Planning Ahead

Flamenco in Cranbrook?

  • On July 24 2018, Fin De Fiesta dance company from Spain will be at the Stage Door in Cranbrook to present their newest production entitled Salvaje (wild, untamed).

A Bit about Flamenco

  • Flamenco is a Spanish art form made up of three parts:guitar playing ("guitarra"), song ("cante"), and dance("baile"). Flamenco originated in the southern regions of Spain, but it's thought to be influenced by many world cultures, including Latin American, Cuban, and Jewish traditions. Click here for a complete desciption of this marvelous artform.

We Will Be Back

  • Beginning Thursday September 20/2018, and continuing up to Christmas, SuenosTango will offer another set of Argentine Tango classes taylored for intermediate and aspiring beginner dancers.

As in the past, tuition for these classes will be super affordable, and don't worry, dresses are not that iimportant, only the shoes.

    More details to follow.

Who On Earth is Christy Cote?

  • September 26-30 in Calgary, Beso de Tango Dance Club will be sponsoring our good friend and instructor, Christy Cote. Much has been written and spoken about Christy as a tango instructor but here is our "condensed comment"

"Christie was not our first tango instructor, but our secoond and we seem to run into her in many places we travel. We can say conclusively that everyone in her class always exceeds their personal best as they learn Argentine Tango". Howzat?
